Teleférico de Quito
After a quick breakfast, we made our way by taxi to the base of the Teleférico which was situated on the west side of the city.
Teleférico means cable car (or gondala) in Spanish. The gondola makes it way all the way up the mountain where the Pichincha volcano sits. Although it was cloudy, we were able to see some pretty views of Quito on the ride up.
On top of the mountain, there are some small restaurants you can eat and trails that you can go hiking to enjoy the scenary the valley and mountains have to offer. You can also rent a horse to go on the trails. It was pretty fun and relaxing to walk around enjoying the walks around the valley.
Mercado de Artesnal
We took a taxi to the Artesenal Market where we wanted to get some more gifts to bring home. In every taxi we take, Kary will ask the driver to change the music if she doesn't like the song and if she really likes the song, she will ask the driver to turn up the volume. The taxi ride to the market on this day was no different as the taxi played some disco music. What happens next is beyond us! LOL :)
At the market, we made friends with one of the vendors who gave us a really good deal on chocolates and tea.
Mariscal Sucre International Airport
The new airport was about an hour drive away from the city center. This is a new airport which started to be used in 2013. The previous airport was located right in the middle of Quito. If you look on a map of the old airport, you can still see the silhouette of what used to be an airport. The old airport had since been transformed into a park.
We arrived at the airport early than we should have. We arrived at 3PM because I thought our flight left at 4PM when in fact it left at 7PM. I was reading the time from Vancouver. Oops! Lucky for us, the airport kept us entertained for 4 hours until our flight time. We browsed around to all the shops, ate some food, took (a lot) of photos from posters on the wall and there was free internet for us to surf the NET and reply to emails.
Once we arrived in Guayaquil, I was so hungry we passed by a restaurant and got a plate of chuletta to go.
